Session 6

I agree with the Aristotelian interpretation of a regime that possesses a sense of sovereignty while permitting the individuals of the state to create a government of their choice.  Western Polyarchies are regimes based on the ideology of Liberal Democracy. This regime allows the distribution of power in the hands of multiple institutions or individuals with the consent of the people, while maintaining orderly rule through supremacy.

One of the main ideas brought forward by the Liberalist democracies is the Separation of Powers which not only ensures uniformity and objectivity in the law but eliminates possibilities of exploiting the law to one’s own favor. This idea, however, has not been effectively applicable.

The US incorporated the “Separation of Powers” ideology into its constitution, but remains to be one of the most hypocritical when it comes to applying its characteristics. While being the front man on campaigns for equal civil rights, justice and class equality, the American justice system has been penalizing the common man for every illegal activity without exception. I do not disagree with the implementation of justice by the American legal system; however the political and corporate figures have not been held liable for the injustices they have caused and have emerged as victors of legal immunity. Not only does this go against everything the US apparently stands for, it also raises the question whether the US is really a Liberal Democracy or not.
