Communism, a Utopian concept? (session 6)

Communism is an ideology that many people believe in especially in the early 19th century during its rise. The world was divided in three tiers according to which supremacy was judged. These three tiers were as follows:

  1. The capitalist states (first world)
  2. Communist states (second world)
  3. developing nations (third world)

The reason why the capitalist bloc is at the number one position, in my opinion is because in recent times, especially after the end of the cold war and the collapse of communism, the only political system that seemed realistically possible was capitalism. Which poses the question whether Communism can even be classified as a realistic political system in this day and age or does it remain Utopian? Utopian refers to perfect state, the ideal state. History has shown us that even when communism was at its peak, it was never truly implemented, especially the notion of the state withering away, that point was never reached. The weakness of this political structure was proved to the world in 1991, when the entire soviet bloc collapsed leaving the capitalist world, singularly in power.

Hence, in my opinion Communism remains a Utopian concept rather than a political system that can be practiced. Which is why no efforts have been made in recent times for communism to resurface again, even China no longer follows the pure communist ideology because nations now know, to succeed they need to turn to the capitalism form of governance.
