Session 6: Montesquieu’s Theory of Separation of Powers

Montesquieu studied human society scientifically and he propositioned a system in which power is distributed and separated in distinct branches to limit from exercising another’s core functions. He created such a system so that there should be a check and balance on the power being given to government officials. The founding fathers of America were highly influenced by this theory and they included it in their constitution known as “Constitution of United States of America”. Montesquieu’s theory encourages and supports the liberty and freedom of people and it can also be the best way in preventing a government from being corrupted as they will keep check on each other.

Founding Fathers did succeed in making America a better place for its native to live by keeping this theory in its constitution but with the passage of time people learned how to dismantle it. As you can see in America though their judicial is still strong but corruption in government is very high because those who were supposed to keep check and balance working as a guard and protector of the government now work together to make corruption possible. Now the question comes to mind that whether Montesquieu’s theory is the best way to prevent corruption from governments?
