Session 6: Confucianism

The word Government refers to organised procedures through which unanimous and usually necessary decisions are made whereas, a regime refers to mechanisms of government as well as institutions of the state.
The East Asian system of government is largely influenced by values and traditions that the people hold sacred. Confucianism is a system of ethical teaching which is followed by a considerable number of East Asians. Because these teachings ultimately impact the society, they may be viewed as a political system or regime. In the East Asian society the state is considered to be a ‘paternal figure’. Such imagery shows the people’s utmost respect of the state and also guides decisions for all spheres of life. In fact disobeying the ruler or state was considered to be a grave crime. The society has historically remained in favour of a strong, authoritative government. Confucian teachings focus on reinforcing orthodox ideas which further emphasises hierarchical respect.

These ideas may help us understand why Communism is so popular in East Asian communities.

Can you please explain the link you're trying to make between Confucianism and communism? because as far as i understand communism is an anti-religious form of rule, as they believe religion is responsible for the false consciousness that prolongs the dictatorship of the proletariat. Furthermore, Communism is against the idea of a state.
