In session 12 we talked about the functions and importance of different political parties. Pakistan is currently going through a sort of decisive phase in it's political landscape. The role of military is one that is considered to be of the highest importance right now. As military has started it's operation against target killers and military courts are playing a very crucial role in this sense. Some people have termed our current situation as a 'pseudo martial law' as army has taken control of a lot of things.
MQM and Altaf Hussain are widely being discussed among the masses (because of Saulat Mirza controversy). Many of MQM's opponents are claiming that it's the end of this political party. But still there are some people whose views are quite the contrary. They keep comparing the current situation with what had happened in 1992, when army had done almost exactly the same thing and Altaf Hussain's brother and nephew were killed as well. Some people believe that MQM has support of a large population of Muhaijirs and Altaf Hussain still has the largest number of hard core followers who would do anything for their leader.
PPP's co-chairman has being supporting Altaf Hussain through out this operation. Asif Ali Zardari believes that leaders of different political parties should support each other for the sake of protecting the whole system. Regardless of their personal disputes different political parties should be on the same page when it comes to protecting the whole system.
Zardari believes that no matter which party gets the highest seats but the current system should be protected from any kind of instability or derailment. PM Nawaz is supporting military in this operation but Zardari has also got the support of Nawaz. Meanwhile Imran Khan is asking for the 'judicial commission' which was a notion used by him just to get a safe escape from that dharna. He started his dharna on a different agenda but when he couldn't see any successful results he used this 'commission' as an excuse to call it off.
Pakistan is currently going through a lot. Foreign establishment is playing a very important role according to different analyst in this whole situation. Different countries are working on different agendas. But our political parties are going through a constant struggle of saving their faces when it comes to issues such as target killing or supporting TTP. Although party system has never been the source of ultimate power in our political scenario, but at this particular point in time, these parties are just going through a lot in trying to maintain their hold in their respective domains(i'm not saying that their downfall or hardships are not justified in any sense),
