If liberalism was the dominant political ideology in Pakistan, it would be an entirely different state. The oppression faced by so many people and the stark class differences in society would be greatly diminished. In my opinion it would solve a great number of problems in Pakistan. However, in Pakistan at this time, liberalism does not seem to be the priority of any political party.
In Pakistan, even those who claim to be liberals, focus mainly on the idea of eliminating religious extremism. While this is undoubtedly a glaring issue to be addressed, liberalism implies a great number of other factors.
Minority rights and equality of women are a vital part of liberalism in politics and need to be addressed in Pakistan. Religious freedom for minorities needs to be stressed upon and they should be allowed to participate in official matters of the state. Women are considered part of the weak group in our society and this idea should change.
Liberalism in Pakistan is an idealistic concept at the moment. The mindset of the Pakistani people is such that they will not accept liberalism as a dominant political ideology because they will not be able to fully understand what the term liberalism implies. The people need to be convinced that it will better the society and the state and is not the 'evil' that many conservatives portray it as in the name of Islam.
