Session 16- Bureaucracy

People who join bureaucracy have to pass a certain exam after which they stand eligible for a government  post. This system promotes meritocracy without class difference, so it provides an opportunity for middle class people to come up and earn some respect due to their hard work.

Bureaucrats are non elected government officers who remain in seat in their working tenure. This policy gives them a job security in which they can work without any fear of loss of job, still they can be transferred to under privileged areas if they come up with a dispute with some upper hand person, group or party.

As they are non-elected and are chosen on merit so they have better sense of system than that of the elected politicians who have many other problems to look after so they avoid contradicting with the system. As politicians and bureaucrats; both are important to run a system so they usually avoid conflicts and it is also in their benefits.

Bureaucrats have more discretion about operations and management of an implemented policy as they are for a longer term so they are  aware of the working of the process . Hence they can do work better than the politicians who are there for a short period, for example, if a policy is made to build roads in certain areas and the next government comes then the work will not stop as it will be in the hands of the bureaucrats so they will continue the project. Civil servants have more authority and decision making power so they continue their work without any problem. In short, bureaucracy is an important factor to run a country's system.
