Imperialism or Anarchy; The Main Cause of War
According to the realists, the main cause of war between states is the anarchy in the international system. They believe that every country will go on war with other countries for two reasons, either to spread the existing boundaries of the country or to prevent themselves from the attacks of other countries thus ensuring their survival.
On the other hand liberals, focus on the fact that although their is anarchy in the international system but it is not the main cause of war. Liberals believe that the main cause of war is imperialism. They belief that viewing other people as inferiors and compelling them to follow the traits of other powerful nations, eventually leads to war. Liberals focus on the fact that imperialism snatches the right of freedom from the people, it prohibits them from following their own norms and cultures and compels them to follow the system of the so called more "Literate" and "powerful" nation.
Similar assumption was considered by Fukuyama in 1992, when he wrote his book " End Of History". He insisted his argument on the fact that as USA, has been declared as the super power, now all countries will adopt their culture and norms, which was obviously not the case as many states and non state actors were strictly against this concept of idealistic hegemony.
In my opinion, even if one nation is able to invade and conquer another nation, and compels the people of the captive nation to follow their traditions, this does not necessarily means that the people of the conquered nation will be happy by the governing of the other nation. It wont be a win-win situation as you might have Taken over the territory of the other country, but with such an approach you will never be able to take over the hearts of common people.
