Session 10 -Leadership crisis in Pakistan

Pakistan became a reality from a dream not just by bloodshed and sacrifices of hundreds of people but also with a charismatic leader who guided the people through the hardship, and lead them to a path of hope and promises for them. Quaid e Azam is the founder of Pakistan and many people consider him as their role model. – What are the qualities that make him an ideal for people to follow?

It is his commitment and the day and night effort he made to turn his imagination of a separate country for Muslims into a truth, a reality that we people live in today who we have failed to safeguard and prosper. While thinking of all those leaders of that time who showed Muslims the path to fight for the rights they deserve and gave birth to a new country which was nearly impossible, a question arises in mind that does the current government or the political parties hold such characteristics or are they all just here on the platform to play their dirty game and gain fame and wealth?

Unfortunately, Pakistan's people are at the stage of time where there are uncertain, anxious and are looking for someone who can come and guide them through this phase of inflation, corruption, terrorism and what not? People’s hopes are shattering with each passing day. The present government has proved to be no victorious as hoped instead it is leading to desperation of change among the people. The people are hammered to such a point that wherever they see a slogan or a hope of change, they start rallying behind it, even if that change is not declared. Questions struck in people’s mind what to do with the democracy that is claimed to exist in the country, when the bread the very necessity of their lives is snatched from them.

The leadership crisis in Pakistan can be proven by various things. One of them is the emergence of Imran Khan as a strong and famous political leader who had been in politics for almost about 16 years but gained the momentum now. This support given to Khan especially by the country’s youth is an evident mark that they had enough of  the false and corrupt dictatorships. – Why was Imran Khan successful in gaining the support of large number of people?

At this time, when everything is going in vain, Imran Khan raised the slogan and his voice for a change. People’s urge of change and yearning of anything greatly coincided with the beautiful dream projected by the famous cricketer. This excitement and hopes were soon doomed when Khan adopted the policy of ‘wait and watch’ and when he failed to bring about successful amendments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as he claimed returning the people back to where they started.

Following that, Tahir ul Qadri showed up in politics with a slogan of bringing change in the country by throwing away the current government. People in large numbers switched sides and started supporting and rallying behind him though many of them failed to understand his plan. The restless people simply supported him because he was standing against the current government and for a change.

This all shows that at this very moment, Pakistan is in a dire need of a good and an honest leadership. The people are ready to support and believe anyone who promises them to fulfill their at least basic needs of food, clothing and housing. Pakistani had bled for this democracy and they deserve this system to serve its duty.

I believe we place a great amount of unnecessary emphasis on a leader crisis. If as though, everything is at a standstill only in wait of a messiah than can right all our wrongs. If change is to come, it will from every individual. Although, a top down trickling down effect may prove influential, there are numerous complexities and problems that we, as a nation, need to fix.

I agree, we should believe in bottom to top change rather than dreaming about trickle down change. We should bring changes rather than waiting for changes to happen on their own, ideally brought by our leaders such as Imran Khan.
