Democractic governments are formed by officials who are selected through the electoral process. People give vote to the respective canditates and then they form government. These canditates are part of different political parties, who on the basis of their ideologies compete with each others during election, for getting into power. These parties consists of people with the same ideas and thoughts and they work on the same agenda. The Leader of the party has a specific ideology and his party people support that idea and the followers give the party canditates votes on those ideas.
Party politics have played a great role in government formation and its funtions. Without these parties, democracy cannot exist, morever these parties represent the people and share a common goal. The parliament consists of the ruling party which is in majority and the opposition, which consists of the party, in minority. The whole setup runs through these officials belonging to the parties.
The Leaders of these parties have different mottos and goals, on the basis of which they ask for votes. When a party comes into power, it works on its motto and agenda. The people expect that the party fulfills its promises and represent them at the higher levels. These parties work on the goals, which are to be completed, so that they can fulfill their missions. Parties have a great role to play in modern day governments and societies. Else than national identity, people are divided into parties and then these parties become their identity. Which has its pros and cons too.

The leaders may have certain ideologies but in the end they all end up abandoning them and take on a "catch-all" shape in an attempt to win as many votes as possible. They become representative parties by telling the people what they want to hear e.g. in Pakistan they claim they'll eliminate loadshedding etc only to appeal to the people instead of claiming their own ideologies and attracting people towards those agendas. And as soon as any party comes to power it completely abandons all the promises it had made during election campaigns, how then is the party process democratic or representative of the identities of people?
