Session 14: Is Pakistan is based on true Islamic ideology?
Ideology, according to French philosopher, Destutt
Detracy, is the science of ideas which are correlated with conscious and unconscious
thoughts. Ideology plays a critical role in shaping the behavior, goals and
policies of not only a state but also individuals. Pakistan is the state which
is based on Islamic ideology but question arises whether in Pakistan this ideology
is practiced in its true essence or is just a way to protect the individuals’
interest?
Islamic state grants freedom of religion to everyone
and the state is also responsible to safeguards their worship places and lives.
However, in Pakistan minorities’ beliefs and practices are in great danger. Sometime
their religious places were blasted and sometimes they were killed just because
they belonged to Shia sector. In fact, a Lahore church was blasted yesterday, in
which around 15 Christians lost their lives and 70 were injured not only this,
Shahbaz Bhatti, a Christian minister was murdered in 2011 in allegation of blasphemy
laws. Our history is stained with thousands of such inhuman acts like killing
of Christian couple in mob violence, Asia bibi case etc. where the minorities were
tortured and their freedom was constricted.
Islamic state also provides the freedom of speech
irrespective of religion, creed and class. However, Pakistani society seems intolerant
in this aspect too. The constitution of Pakistan itself hampers the preaching
and open practice of Ahmedi religion moreover, Blasphemy law, the most misbelief and debatable law took lives of hundreds of insane people.
Under Islamic ideology, the state is supposed to be responsible
for the protection of its citizens’ lives and rights but in reality our state
is acting as silence spectator and manipulating the Islamic ideologies for
their benefits and interest.

Not only minorities become a victim of this Pakistani Islamic ideology but also the poor people who have no power or authority to prove innocence. One can easily accuse someone of blasphemy even when there is no real blasphemy has been occurred. Such loop holes benefit those people who gain desired outcomes by using religion in their favor. And the worst thing is that we have no proper implementation of laws to punish such people.
I agree with you on the points you have made in your blog. Pakistan is far away from its ideology. Our ideology was supposed to be based on 'freedom of the people' but here as one can clearly see that now Pakistan's idelogy is more likely to be defined as 'freedom of the people in power',
