Session 23 - The Kashmir Issue

Pakistan and India, since independence, have been pondering over this issue, but their efforts seem to be of no avail as they do not reach a mutual agreement every time the Sacred United Nations tries to bring this issue on board. So one gets to think why haven't these states reached a mutual agreement even after six decades? On the other hand, if we compare the progress of other nations like Singapore, they have turned from nothing to everything in less than six decades, whereas we are still stuck in The Kashmir Issue.

An analysis of this dispute will suggest that it is an amalgamation of not only ideological and religious conflicts, but also a result of state ego and economic conflicts. I think ideological, religious, and economic conflicts can perish with time but the one thing that cannot be solved is a conflict based on ego. India's and Pakistan's egoistic rivalry is even evident in the cricket matches that we repeatedly tend to lose :(.. Let's hope The Kashmir Issue gets solved through the use of power and war because there seems to be no other alternative left.

The Kashmir issue is a complex one which dates back to before partition of the subcontinent. I believe that territorial integrity of both nations is what stops them from compromising on this issue. Both nations need to consider the Kashmiri perspective as well, in order to truly solve this conflict.

Indeed Kashmir issue is a very sensitive one, on which most of the leaders avoid to talk, but in my opinion the fact that is causing this delay in the final verdict of Kashmir issue is the invention of an idea. Correct me if i am wrong but as far as i know, Indians themselves are afraid to let Kashmir go as they fear that this will lead to the generation of an idea within the Indian masses and might hamper the unity of the country by dividing it into different parts. They fear that similar to Kashmiris, the Sikhs might also ask for independence and so on....

@habib: its good you defined the Indian perspective about Kashmir. But we must not forget that Pakistan also cannot let Kashmir. There is a dire need to solve this issue either by Kashmiris Vote or through war because 6 decades is more than enough to hope for reaching an agreement through dialogue.
