Political parties have been tasked in the current system with the responsibility of highlighting the voices of the people that elected them. Throughout the world, in democratic nations we see parties going through a lot of effort in trying to satisfy the people they represent. The party with the most amount of votes then forms a government which then rules supreme over the nation.
The problem however arises when political parties work towards self interest rather then representing the people that voted them into power. A lot of parties all striving for a bigger piece of the pie is another problem that can hinder effective policy making. Another big issue comes with the leadership of the parties. The leadership is supposed to be as democratic as the system they are trying to prosper in. A party that has a god base of workers but incompetent leadership is bound to drag a nation back then help it prosper.
The problem with the parties in Pakistan is the lack of effective and competent leadership as well as the inability to create more viable leadership. We see dominant parties like PPP and PML-N with huge support sticking to the old lineage of leadership. The Bhuttos and The Sharifs have been in charge of these parties for a long time. In today's world we see that the leadership is not being tasked to the more competent of the politicians but the kin of those that were previously in power. From Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to Benazir Bhutto to Bilawal Bhutto we can see how we are still living in a feudal landscape that impacts all major policies of the nation.
The world has evolved from the era where a handful of rich and dominant families reigned supreme over the larger populace. However in developing countries like Pakistan we have a facade of democracy which upon further analysis reveals a more feudal form of governance where the power changes hands among the major families. The more depressing factor however is that nobody from the party stands up to the leader and all policies are directly effected by the leadership which comprises of the family member. The parties which try to empower the people should not hold back the people from gaining power. The parties themselves need to adopt a more democratic system in order for them to be truly effective for the nation that they try to represent.

I agree with your view regarding the political parties within Pakistan. We live in a country which uses the different elements that comprise a democratic system to provide a false picture of democracy to the public. Political parties have varying self interests and until we have parties that truly work for the benefit of the people, we are doomed to suffer the political instability that prevails in the country today.
