Session 14: Religious Fundamentalism our biggest issue?

Different political ideologies regarding a state were given in the reading but by the time I reached the end of the reading the only thing that I could think of was the Religious Fundamentalism. As every day we hear a news about a school, mosque or a market being attacked by these different militant groups who keep using the name of religion to justify their acts.  16th december 2014 was the darkest day in our history when small children were brutally killed by these terrorists.

Our people have become so insensitive that now they don't even bother if less than 50 people are killed in any market in Peshawar or any other place in KP. They have become quite used to listening to these different news of bomb blasts in KP where a few people are killed almost every day. But when  something like Peshawar school attack happens then people start realizing that those could have been their own children. Different protests are done everywhere but I don't think if those protests would make any difference. Pakistan's situation is currently out of our hands. No one knows the real attackers.

15th March 2015 brought another terrible news as two churches were attacked by suicide bombers in Lahore.International community has shown a very strong reaction on this brutal act. But it's not just minorities, every single citizen in Pakistan is equally vulnerable to be attacked by the terrorists. But we do know that when it comes to minorities even a common man who is associated to some sort of religious organization that teaches that other religions are 'fitna' has developed this feeling of hatred in his mind for some reason.

But terrorists would generally target anyone and everyone in our country, now-a-days every one is living under this constant fear of getting attacked. Even we had to do this training to hide somewhere in case our university is attacked by terrorists. Everyone enjoyed it and took it as something funny, but if we think about it how failed are we as a state? rather than focusing on our future careers most of the time we are talking about the fact that if we are going to survive the expected attack? where are we going to hide?

Is religious fundamentalism currently the biggest issue that our country is facing? As it affects everything in our country our business community, our foreign investors, our image in international community, our education system, our religious places etc literally there is nothing in our country that has not been affected by this wave of religious fundamentalism. Now can anyone among us think of any problem that is greater than that at this point in time?

Religious Fundamentalism is one of the most important concerns of out country.
This religious fundamentalism has lead to these draconian acts by the extremists.
However, the problem which is greater than the religious fundamentalism is our ignorance towards the major issues.

I strongly agree with Haris, that although religious fundamentalism is one of the most important issue, but there are even bigger issues that needs our utmost attention to be resolved. Our ignorance towards such issues had made us think that there are relatively smaller issues that needs to be solved before the bigger ones.
