The best thing about LUMS is that no one can interfere in
the life of other people and ironically this is the worst thing also.
Smoking culture is so deepened in student’s lives
that it has now gained the form of socialization and mass acceptance. The
entrance of academic block towards the PDC has been now recognized as the
smoker’s point despite of the clear sign of non-smoking area, nailed at one of
the pillars. It is really a great pain for non-smokers who pass through this
route.
To non-smokers, the smell causes nausea and headache.
Smoking not only harms the smoker but it also endangers the lives of people who
have never smoked.
The worst thing is the leniency of the authorities who take
no action towards such people who smoke in REC or other public places. Also there are certain instructors who smoke
publicly, delivering a sign of public acceptance.
Just as people who create noise in library are penalized,
people who smoke in public places should also be fined. There should be
separate places for people who smoke so that non-smokers can enjoy a slightly
clean air.

I strongly agree with your opinion. Passive smoking is having great health affects on non smokers as people are openly smoking in REC where we have to sit and eat even if we don't want to as there is shortage of seats. other than that, I think smoking is a personal choice and I cannot ask the authorities to ban or anything. But I would really want the authorities to ensure that it is not done in dining places. at least.
