Session 13: Ranger’s raid on MQM headquarters; who to believe?
On the morning of 11th March, rangers raided on
the headquarters of MQM, one of the biggest political party of Pakistan or should
I say only party controlling Karachi?
Nine Zero was taken by the rangers in early morning for a
search operation and hardcore criminals were captured as a result. The raid led
to an announced “peaceful protest” by the party workers causing shutting down
of schools, closing of markets, shutting down of petrol stations in many cities
of Sindh and setting of a bus and rickshaw to fire. While terror prevail in the
city, local people stay in their homes avoiding any harm to themselves; a
peaceful protest it is. During the raid one of the MQM party member was killed
and many allegations have been imposed; party workers blame rangers for their
loss, rangers blame unidentified person to open fire and many say it was the
party workers themselves, but the important factor which no one seems to care
about is that another young life has been lost and the number of unnecessary deaths
in Pakistan has increased. Many stories of the raid has been shown on media,
opposition leaders have walked out of the senate, journalist has been injured,
accusations have been made, reason for the raid to be conducted on the same day
as the all party meeting have been questioned and the drama of politics have
continued to serve its country to its best. The life of a local citizen has
again been hampered and the country has been put under stress again. The raids
continue, terrorist attacks continue and political leaders continue to be
glorified by their parties and Pakistanis continue to sacrifice. Till when, till
when shall this continue? It is about time that all the political parties
accept their faults and take serious actions for a progressing Pakistan instead
of a bleeding Pakistan.

I agree with your point that this needs to stop. Some of the political parties in our country including MQM are now not only restricted to political parties, but posses private armies. They possess numerous illegal weapons which have been confiscated by the rangers and other authorities time and again. Yet leaders of these political parties always manage to blame others for such findings and eventually manage to get away. What we need is speedy justice to be served against such parties and the criminals that hide within them.
Speedy justice you say Adam? Perhaps through a jirga? Just kidding - we all know your views on the need for a unified and effective national judiciary.
More on point, I agree that the loss of a life - which MQM is claiming though the Rangers are denying - is indeed tragic. But the bigger issue is that the Rangers appear to be finally willing to take on the thugs and criminals that are aided and abetted by MQM. Hopefully this will lead to more justice and stability in Karachi, but let's see what happens!
I agree with Adam a speedy system of justice needs to be introduced throughout the country, in all areas be it Lahore or Interior Sindh. One of the reports on the raid said that Faisal Mahmood aka Faisal Mota awarded death senetence in 2014 has been captured, a criminal awarded death sentence is being captured AFTER one year in a raid heavily condemned by many parties, this is the justice system we have right now which needs to change, and it need to change fast.
Ayesha, you have mentioned how the ranger's raid has led to deaths and chaos but what about all the "peaceful protests" that MQM holds every now and then. The fact that the entire Karachi is shut down so that their illicit activities are not hampered is just absurd.
The factors involved in the death remain unclear but I do not blame the raid in any way for the chaos in the city. It is the traditional "peaceful protests" by the MQM workers which hampers life of Karachi the most. Quite ironical how they call it peaceful protest and then shut down the whole city just to show their power and control over the most economically active city of our country.
I'd like to write a bit about your last point. You mentioned the urgent need of political parties to realize their faults and thenceforth move forward in an attempt to correct them. I feel that it's critically important to realize the dynamics of this scenario. Most political parties and political leaders do realize their faults. It would be naive on our part to consider them unaware or unrelenting. It is not true that they are not cognizant to their shortcomings. It is in fact, in my opinion, that those shortcomings are by design. Why? Because the problem is not a lack of understanding regarding their inability to deliver. It is a lack of their commitment towards delivering, which in many cases is a liability on self interest. And as individuals prioritizing interest over principle, they evaluate that the cost of that effort upon their motives is too big a cost to bear, or to even risk.
The messy decisions our politicians make just to ensure their personal interests are not effected and how they roll away from their duty and commitment to this country makes me ache, and I think these would be the sentiments of many thousands in Pakistan.
