Session 14: Pakistan - Political Ideology

Ideologies are a set of ideas – they are considered to be very important as they bring segregated groups together. Furthermore, without a common ideology in a nation it would be hard to keep things stabilized and promote harmony.

The existence of Pakistan is a great way to show just how powerful ideologies can be.  Muhammad Ali Jinnah played a vital role in changing the course of history – his constant struggle led to the creation of the ideology of Pakistan.

Many years ago Muslims of South Asia realized that they have little in common with Hindus. The initial demand put forth was separate electorates, however, soon they realized that the differences among them were far too vast and therefore they changed their demand into a separate state. This desire of a 'separate state for Muslims' was shared by the masses and is how the ideology of Pakistan came into existence.

Perhaps Jinnah's demand for Pakistan was merely a bargaining chip for concessions in the center?

I too agree with Ahmad since Jinnah initially supported the idea of a secular state but when little advances were made, he shifted his stance and worked for a state in the name of religion. Jinnah successfully mended the opinion of people and made them believe that Muslims and Hindus could not live together peacefully; congress rule 1937-39 adding onto the argument. As a result, the demand appealed to the people and masses joined and worked for a separate homeland.
