Session 12- A short critique of political parties

If any particular party wants to attract the masses it must not be too specific with regards to its mandate. This creates many problems such as the support of minorities that are opposed to the mainstream ideologies. Hence minority rights are not protected unless a political party is established specifically to do so.
Furthermore, such parties can not usually be too right winged or left winged.
Political parties also carry with them a large irrational fan following and their leaders may even be uneducated and still be in office. This creates many problems as ones political party is not looked at objectively and instead is mostly seen as flawless. Pakistan is an example whereby political parties can result in large disputes when followers of two separate parties meet.
Although their agenda maybe nationalistic, political parties can create many drifts and differences between citizens. This is problematic as political parties can create alot of hype especially during election periods .
Recently, political parties have started to gather their support on the social media. Profile pictures, cover photos and posting statuses etc related to politics has become a new phenomenon whereby the youth can indulge in politics. Political parties have even formulated student bodies with ambassadors in different universities to gather support of the next generation.
