Session 12: Rising leftist groups

Every political party has its own political orientation, some are right-wing parties considered as the fascist and conservative parties and some are left-wing parties which are considered as the communist and progressive parties. The leftist parties include activist and socialist people working to bring a change and to make a real difference in the lives of the poor.

Recently it has been seen that the leftist groups in the form of parties like Democratic Student Alliance and Awami Party are rising, the main objective of these parties lies in making sure that people are getting their basic rights, the interests of the minorities like Hindus and Christians are being protected and raising voice of general public against the unjust laws and terrorism and making sure that their voices are heard too. Many of such parties are rising and have done appreciable work in starting projects like education for all, 141 schools in name of Peshawar attack victims and Pakistan for all-human shields to protect Christian and Hindu religious sites etc. These parties are not only working for the betterment of one class or community but working towards making the society more tolerant and acceptable to all.

Ayesha, things that you point out about the left are in fact true. They do try and benefit the society as a whole because their focal point is the society and not the individual. However, it's important to understand the potential of any kind of system to become a behemoth. Not because the ideology may provide for such, but because if any sides of the political spectrum is given absolute power, it will do more harm than good. In my opinion, for becoming a more progressed society, we need to find the right balance between these.
