Blaming The Elite (session 13)

As discussed recently in class the topic about Pakistan’s elite. It got me to think that the corruption of the elite of a  nation is possibly one of the worse things that can happen to any nation. Therefore, much of the problems that Pakistan faces today can be rooted in the corruption of its elite.

The elite are educated, yet illiterate. They lack social and moral ethics and symbolize capitalism at its finest. They are the 1% of the country which holds all the power and does not want to let it seep down. It is the elite who despite being educated and being in positions of power don’t realize the importance of it and are okay with more than half the country staying illiterate. Either they don’t realize it or they realize it which is why they know how important education is and don’t want the poor’s standard of living to rise.

They are in positions of power and  instead of doing something good for the country, they steal from it and usually try to maximize self interest. Apart from that, the kind of social life they lead is not one an average Pakistani can or should look up to. Drinking, smoking and other wises are quite common in thir social circles which not only is not representative of the conservative culture of Pakistan but also adds to the moral pollution of the nation.

There is as an extreme inequality in wealth among the people of Pakistan. Where the rish get richer and poor are getting poorer. I am no supporter of the socialist system but looking at the reality of the people of my nation its  makes me wonder why a revolution does not happen like they previously have, predicted by Marx. Looking and living under this unfair hand of the market, it really makes me wonder whether perhaps socialism is a better system to live in?

Perhaps, I have attributed much too much blame on the Elite of the nation. They are not the only ones responsible. But, in my opinion they are the ones who are in positions of power and I believe as far as they are considered, their silence is even a crime. They are the ones who can do something for the nation and they should.
