Difference between factions and parties.
A political party is a group of like minded people who have the same ideas about the way their country should be governed. Their motive is to work together to win the elections and hence, the control of the government. They compete with one another to gain political power, the ability to put their policies into effect. More seats they secure, more say they can have in the parliament. Factions, however, are often confused to be the same as political parties. There exists substantial difference between the two.
Where political parties are a group who seek to govern the country with agreed principles, a faction is like a group of similar politicians who are just formed around a key leader, supporting a set of preferred policies. It is basically a section of group within a larger formation i.e it exists within a political party. To say, it is a party within a party with set of beliefs or ideological disposition vaguely different from the original party's.
Such factions have at times hindered political parties in fulfilling their role of soliciting or articulating public policy priorities, and civic needs and problems.
