There are international conflicts being fought world over. Their reasons varied but politics and IR have a huge hand to play in all situations. One of the major conflicts of recent times has been the issue of Kashmir. India and Pakistan have fought wars over the territory and each country claims they are the legitimate rulers of that land.
In my opinion, the problem of Kashmir has become a war of egos. Each country would find it extremely hurtful to their persona and national pride to lose this conflict to the opposing side. In both India and Pakistan, a major chunk of the national narrative is that "India/Pakistan are very different thus they separated. The opposing side is evil since they took away Kashmir from us, so they are our sworn enemy and will will fight them." It is in this race that both countries have gone overboard with national defense leading to the 2 parties acquiring nuclear weapons. However we all forget that the only people affected by all this fighting and ineffective diplomatic meetings are the people of Kashmir. Both countries have treated Kashmiris terribly and it's high time that India and Pakistan do right by them.
I agree with you statement that Kashmir issue is now become war of egos in which only Kashmirs were hurting. Their views and demands were completely ignored by both and they are trying to captivate the territory in order to prove them more powerful and superior.
