There are a number of reasons for the outbreak of any war.
But the major reason for it is a Conflict. The conflict may be religious,
territorial or international in nature.
Some of the great wars fought, like the Cold war have been
due to an international conflict of ideology. Where the US wanted a capitalist
form of the world, whereas the Soviet Union wanted to spread communism. It was
the conflict of thought or idea that led the two nations to fight for decades.
While this war was a cold one, which did not involve
military use, other conflicts like conflicts of interests can in fact involve military.
These usually lead to hegemonic wars for example the Iraq war. These kinds of
war usually require occupying territory to avail resources.
In the world we live in, with globalization at its peak,
international conflict is inevitable. The whole world is in competition to be on
the top. That eventually almost, always leads to war. A lot of wars occur, on religious grounds
too. If you look at the one happening in present day Yemen, it is believed it
is due to be a sectarian conflict. The
reading talks about Islamic movements which also lead to war to spread Islam
and to defend it. War also happens due
to ethnic conflict and the biggest example of this is in Germany, when they
Jews were killed because of their ethnicity. Another example close to home is
the genocide against the Bangladeshi folk, which was purely on ethnic conflict.
The conflict begins with a difference in opinion and eventually
turns extreme and converts into a war, whose cause can be one of the many
reasons mentioned above.
I agree with Maryam. Regardless of all the theories devoted to the causes of war, it is true that conflicts initiate wars. The examples illustrated above of the Cold War and that of the Iraq War, all demonstrate a degree of differences in beliefs and opinions.
