Among all the theories that we have studied in class
so far, in my opinion Marxism was probably the best and the most realistic
theory. Based on the socialist and
dialectical theories of Karl Marx, Marxist criticism views literary works as
reflections of the social institutions out of which they are born. Marxism
basically divides all the population into either the proletariat i.e. the
working class and the bourgeoisie who are the owners of the factors of
production.
The fact that compels
me to rate Marxism as the best and most realistic theory is that Marxism is the
only theory that talks about the implementation of capitalism in the real
world. It talks about the fact that there is a process of alienation that is
being going on in the professional world. The proletariats are being discriminate
on the fact that they are unable to consume what they are producing. Other than
that, the only loyalty that these proletariats have is towards their institutes
and firms. They are working for more than 12 hours on daily basis, the time
they are fed up with their job, they are given some extra perks to continue
their work which diminishes their social life and alienates them from the rest
of the society.
Similarly the bourgeoisie have their constant focus
towards reducing the cost of production and increasing their profits,
regardless of the fact whatever are the working conditions for the workers.
Marxist have said that the only solution to all
these class problem is to bring in socialism, which will terminate these class differences.
Marxist have predicted that the time when all the feudal will become
bourgeoisie and people won’t be able to afford the basic necessities of life
and a proletariat revolution will start, which will overcome all these class
differences and socialism will prevail.
I agree that Marxism as a world view and method of societal analysis that focuses on class relations and societal conflict and which uses a materialist interpretation of historical development, and a logical view of social transformation is very inspiring.
