Session 8 - Survival of a regime

"Values and beliefs play an important role in promoting stability and survival of a regime” Andrew Heywood. In Pakistan’s relatively short period of history it has involved itself in non stop conflict for which many rest the blame on Pakistan’s own actions  . Although the fact that Pakistan has been involved and is primarily blamed for atrocities such as “Operation Searchlight”, the conflict in Bangladesh, the rise of insurgency and terrorism, it has and is constantly promoting a history which forgets these events. As Haywood points out, values and beliefs have an important role in promoting the survival of a regime. These wrongful acts committed by Pakistan symbolize the instability present and Pakistan’s failure to protect its regimes. The Pakistani government has made it a point to absolutely wipe out these events from the minds of the Pakistani people. More and more Pakistani people hold a perception of their political beliefs and values that is based on falsehood.

Ironically, the constant efforts of the Pakistani government to forge a history that it never had in order for values and beliefs to be built in the minds of the Pakistani people that promote stability and survival have utterly failed. The Pakistani peoples beliefs in the political systems of Pakistan are extremely divided. These divisions are a major concern that the government needs to be addressing before Pakistan’s survival comes to question: some argue that it may already have.
