Session 12 - Pakistan Peoples Party and Z.A Bhutto

On December 1970 general elections were held for the first time in Pakistani history. Contrary to popular expectation Z.A Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party swept West Pakistan on the promise of 'roti, kapra and makkan'. Never in the history of the subcontinent a party so thoroughly swept the imaginations of the voters only three years after its inception. How can than one explain the electoral success of Pakistan People Party?

Z.A Bhutto was the first politician in Pakistan to involve masses in politics. A leader of unparalleled oratory, Bhutto used his mastery of rhetorical language to spectacular effect. He was the party and the party was him. Although he had a large cadre of electables, it was Bhutto who got them all together when he founded the party in 1967. Bhutto deliberately kept his election manifesto vague to appeal to the largest possible audience. So appealing was his charisma that a decade after his death, his daughter was able to lead Peoples Party to an election victory on the slogan of 'jiye Bhutto'.

I agree to what you have written about Bhutto but your post doesn't make it clear if you are supporting him or criticising him or what are you trying to prove here in general. Are you trying to tell us that people's party one 70's election because of Bhutto's one man show or .... ?
