State: The role of a Guardian

The need of the hour is to understand the true meanings of a state and to come across-whether it plays an important role or not..? Basically a state is a Guardian which looks after its people and bind them together through various means. A state consists of an government officials, institutions and projects, which work together to run the country in a smooth pattern. Higher Rank officials such as politicans-as ministers and judges play their part through different means. The organizational definition of state explains the same and insist that everyone; more or less needs someone to govern them. Its something that inforces rules and regulations that end up settling the law and order situations which are beneficial for the country and its success.

It depends upon one; how one defines a state. It has different definitions including the Functional Definition which tells that a state is something which completes and achieves its goals and objectives and on the other side anything which helps in achieving significant results is part of the state.

The officials present in a state come through elections; a process in which people vote for respected canditates and the canditates who get the majority of votes, move into governing positions. Democracy is the soul of a successful state. A liberal democracy is something in which people who seek for their freedom act in such a way that their rights remain safe and the state helps them provide them. Security is assured by the state and it is expected from the government that it will act in such a way that the country remains safe in every condition and state helps in balancing the economic conditions.

Though the role of the state is criticised at times and its thought that the intervention of the state in different matters is wrong (the market conditions) but still the government is required to look after the people and the conditions. The officials are also lambasted but they are the people from the majority. Though different opinions are present regarding the role of the state but each of them agree on the point that state is important to look after the people.

Democracy, though fair in its essence, considers the votes of high intellectuals & village idiots to be of the same value. So our so called democratically elected leaders just have to manipulate the masses living in rural areas, who by the way lack the capacity to see the bigger picture.

Wamidh touches on one of the fundamental problems with democracy. One (wo)man=one vote does not always lead to the best results. In fact, it can lead to what critics have called a "tyranny of the majority." How then to maintain democracy without getting tyranny of the majority? The best way to do so is through representative government which incorporates some type of democracy in its electoral system. This is why the U.S. is a Republic and not a pure democracy.
