So what is
state? Well I think it is like parents who limit your control, make you obey
the authority and hence so that you are able to contribute to the society. By
obeying authority one can say that state purpose is to maintain order. But
parents do have some restrictions over controlling their children. So should
the state be involved in private matters of life of its people? Some say the
state is the composition of institutions that care for the welfare of people.
But then the definition of welfare is subjective. Some citizens of the state
may consider exercising of certain freedom as their welfare while state does
not allow such freedom. So let us take
for example the state in Saudi Arabia as it is a theocracy. So if a citizen of
Saudi Arab is a trader. He has freedom of trade so considering that freedom he
wants to publicly sell the alcoholic beverage to make profit. But state
religion does not allow selling of liquor. So is the state working for the
person’s welfare or not? It depends on who you ask?
Locke says that “where there is no law there
is no freedom”. So when parents are not around the children fight, violate
rules and affect each other rights. So parents ensure none of this happens and
a state of order is maintained. The other question that pops in the mind what
really affects the parent’s decision? Is the big business or a certain economic
class? As in case of US politics if we have a republican candidate contesting
for presidency the gun lobbyists will funnel a lot of funds into his campaign
because the president is the big pivotal piece of state. He can in turn promote
laws favoring gun industries or at least can award state positions to the people
in favor of US second amendment for instance the appointment a Supreme Court
justice. The truth is it (parents decision) can be multiple factors but one thing that is clear is that
state is for the very development of the masses and their progress on
international as well as domestic level.

Whether or not the state should get involved in the private affairs of citizens is critical debate that rages in every state around the globe today. This will remain an ever-present issue for states that is constantly being debated and changed over time.
