Session 3 - Who controls our mind?

Each one of us posses one of the strongest power of mind. This power consists of thoughts, ideas and information that passes through our mind and are responsible for how we perceive things in the world.

Our predominant thoughts influence our behavior and attitude as well as control our actions and reactions. – Where do these thoughts originated from? Are these thoughts, likes and dislikes are really ours? Do we attentively and deliberately create the every thought that entered our mind?

Our mind is open to all the thoughts that pass by, meaning the external thoughts. These external thoughts play an integral role in cementing our wants. – Where do these external views come from? Our mind maybe flooded with such ideas and views through TV, newspaper etc. Media usually portrays to present the needs of the public, but instead in reality it is actually an institution which is working for the elite class and indirectly fulfilling all their desires. – Does it completely controls our mind or do we have our own self consciousness?

Session 4:
I agree with the thought that many of our wants may be manufactured and a result of outside influence. However, I deem it unlikely that our minds are "flooded" with external ideas as a result of mass media. While newspapers do have a role in shaping opinion, for example, it is far fetched to assume that readers internalize every viewpoint expressed in a op-ed.
Also, the assumption that mass media is an institution "working for the elite class" requires more consideration before it can be established as a fact.

I agree with the fact that our minds are greatly influenced by the external thoughts gathered through media. However, I think it would be a hasty generalization to call media "an institution working for the elite" as since its formation, media has played an active role in making the voice of general pubic heard. This could be proved by giving the example of various TV shows dedicated to the sole purpose of raising public issues and public awareness programs. Therefore, we can not call media to be working for the elite class even though there are biases present.

There is a war going on for your mind and it exists every second of the day. Literally everything we perceive continues to get filtered and amalgamated into our thoughts, desires, and beliefs. We should keep this in mind as we consume the news and all external stimuli.
