The word “Feminism” is considered a pseudo-curse term in our
society. When a women stands up for her rights, the same rights that the men of
our country enjoy is simply labeled a feminist by the people.
Many people argue that feminism is a brainchild of West but
if we dig in deep we will recognize that its maybe a brainchild of Islam too. Feminism is
a radical notion that treats women like people which is clearly evident in
Islamic teachings for example opposing female infanticide, defending women in the
inheritance rights, making men own the children that they sired, curtailing polygamy
etc.
In our society if a man earns for his family and fulfills
all their needs, he is praised and presented as a great example of a good brother,
husband, and father to be followed by everyone. On the other hand, if women bears
and brings up children well is a job that she is supposed to do. In most cases,
every penny spent on her including the child bearing is even counted. It is not a
Western term that is exported but in reality it is a weakness that exists in
our society which should be dealt seriously.
Furthermore, we usually think that all the injustice with women is solely
related to men. In this, we are forgetting the fact that this oppression starts
within home and it may not be the male members of the family but instead the
women members. In Pakistan in mostly every household the mother favors’ her son
over her daughter. A mother holds a position that aids greatly in the
internalization of the values in her children she raises. Islam even
advised man to find a woman who is a mother for their children instead a wife
for themselves.
Your last point is very valid and I also think that charity begins at home. If women start respecting the fellow women then males will automatically switch towards this trend as women are in the majority. Even in most of the dramas whether Indian or Pakistani, we see women plotting against each other just for their own benefits. If women strongly desire for equality in every aspect then they have to show the courage to respect other women first.
