Session 23: Economic Conflict

The economies of different countries are closely related and all play a part in shaping the overall economic situation worldwide. This is because of the important role that international trade plays in the world today. The world has increasingly become a global village and this strongly effects the interconnectedness of the world economy.
In the case of the Cold War, the USA and USSR were mainly involved in a war of economic interests. It was of utmost importance for these two countries to ensure that their economic ideology triumphed over the other. This was of major concern to both parties hence resulted in a very long, drawn out war between them. During the war, both countries used economic means against each other and this had long lasting effects on both parties.

  1. I think that the conflict between the USA and USSR was not one of economic interests dominantly, rather than one of ego. It was a fight to become the world superpower. Economic measures were taken to become the dominant state, however, it can be argued that the two ideologies, capitalism and communism, had preliminary economic differences that ignited the cold war.
